Saddle Problems

Due to continued use of ill fitting saddles, it is easy to see the advanced stages of muscle wastage: The condition of the horses back (top line) is usually a reflection on how well his saddle fits, this has a direct bearing on his performance, movement, attitude and well being.

Most Equestrian Business, Organisations or Services have received some kind of bullying or slanderous attack via the Internet or Facebook usually by a disgruntled client or from other people who are sympathetic and believe what is been said to be factual.

Personally I don’t have an issue with this providing its Constructive Criticism, Polite and FACTUAL.
These Complaints can bring about good changes within a business, it challenges you the owners to improve your business and service.

Over the past week I have had a couple of clients contact me who are concerned over my recent attack on facebook.
This involves a client who’s refund request was declined; who posted presumably to gain support through a group that I am blocked from.
Some of the group’s members over the past 4 years have continually posted a lot of misleading statement, slander, and threatened me including threats of physical violence Some of these people I have never meet and some are well known disgruntled x clients.

Due to the serious nature of their post; some have received letters from my lawyer and Facebook has removed their post or their groups.

A copy of my email to this client outlining the reason why I have refused her request for a refund is below for everyone to read.

26/4/16

Hi Beth

I am very sorry you are unhappy with your saddle.

I have made every effort to get back down to see you for a recheck, unfortunately I had to cancel my trip down for April as advised.
I have requested numerous time that you send me some photos of your saddle on your horses back so I can assess the fit. You have advised you didn’t have time and you have not replied back to my other request.

I have checked the details of you saddle which was delivered to you on 21 January 2016.
Under our terms and conditions you have a 7 days right of return for any reason as from your delivery date.
You contacted me on the 21 February advising the saddle didn’t fit and when I asked if your mare had gained weight you said yes.

I am very sorry but you request for a refund is out of our 7 day terms for a refund.
This was explained to you at your assessment in detail “terms and conditions” and you received a copy of the terms and conditions along with your invoice and other information.

Options For You Consideration

I am more than happy to assess the fit via photo as I have previously requested.

You can waiting intill I come back down. My next visit down is pending intill there is enough (3 clients) bookings to cover the cost of the airfares and travel expenses. My 2 clients who postponed in April are looking to reschedule in a couple of months.

If you know what adjustment are required for your saddle fit, I am more than happy to get this done at my expense as per our terms and conditions.

If you are prepared to pay the difference between a Saddle Fit Recheck $85.00 and the cost for me to get down, I will come down at your convenience. You would have to collect and return me from the airport or organise a shuttle and possible motel.

OR: I can offer to sell your saddle on behalf.
My commission is normally xxx (minimum xxxx); I would be prepared to sell your saddle on xxxx commission to cover my cost and would need to send the agreement form.

If I can be of any further assistance or if you have any queries please email me direct; info@citorisaddles.co.nz

Regards Anthea

CITORI SADDLES REFUND POLICY For New Saddles
1. 7 Day Right of Return for any reason. Normal riding marks (wear and tear) is acceptable.
2. 8 days is too late to ask for a refund; I would offer to sell on behalf if you changed your mind regardless of the reason.
3. Refunds can take up to a couple (2-3) week to be paid out; the saddle is sent back or I will re-sell it if I have a buyer for it.

EVERYONE HAS
1. A 3 Month Saddle Adjustment Cover regardless of the reason; meaning I pay for any adjustments if required.
2. For some horses who require a longer than 3 months to redevelop there top line I offer an extension.
These horses are under our recovery programme and or padding system and most will have advanced muscle atrophy (wastage) on their top line. I would rather adjust their saddles once they have redeveloped a healthier back shape.

Our Terms and Conditions Do Apply.
NEW client are told about our Refund Policy at the saddle fitting assessment, on delivery of their saddle plus they receive a copy of the terms and condition along with their invoice.

IF A REFUND REQUEST DOSNT MEET OUR TERMS AND CONDITONS
Then I will try to the best of my ability to offer an option so both parties are happy within reason.

I don’t have an issue with refunds, proving it meets our terms and conditions.
The issue I have is when someone decides for whatever reason our terms and conditions No Longer Apply To Them.

Personally I don’t care what people have to say except I draw the line at post of personally threats , misleading statements, slander; or unauthorised use of my trademarks or copywriters.

This is 100% unacceptable; It breeches Facebooks Rules and it’s against NZ Law and suable.

OPINIONS, IDEAS, QUESTIONS
I hope I have made the right choice to bring this out into the open; but the days of the “client is always right” are long over.
I have endured these bullying tactics for the past 4 years.

If anyone has an opinion, or would like to ask a question, or if you have some constructive criticism you are welcome to express and post it here or email me direct info@citorisaddles.co.nz

I will do my best to answer you factually.

Thank You
Anthea Burton

Here are some reason why I have declined a refund over the past few years.
The client is out of their 7 day right of return
The saddle has been badly damaged
The client has purchased a new horse for which the saddle was not originally purchased for.
The saddle is not the originally saddle that I sold to the client.
The saddle is not my brand.
The horse has gain a lot of weight (gone from a nice healthy body weight to gross)
The horse has lost a lot of weight (Gone from a nice healthy body weight to skinny)

Alison TannerWell done for sticking to your guns, I saw all this slander on the fb page at the same time as ordering a saddle from you, I did have concerns, but having met you, seen the saddles, and read the terms and conditions, I felt I would carry on with the purchase. Just looking forward to the arrival of my new saddle. Chin up and don't let them get you down. 😊

Tina-Mark PortangerWell said Anthea. I have seen you bend over backwards to get something right for the horse, spend hours trying to help a horse and rider. Have seen most horses progress under your saddles. Have seen you drive all hours of the night/day/weather to get to a client to help them out. I'm so pleased you have posted this. xxx

Nic GreeneComplete thumbs up from me, when I was having problems with the first saddle I brought, the first words you said to me were, "What do you want to do, Nic?" - not hard luck, or you'll have to sell it, or I'll offer you this "lesser" amount....... just helped me into a saddle better suited to me (wasn't a horse fit problem, was a Nic fit problem) - thank you for that support.

I have often been asked how to care for sheepskin saddle blankets or half pads.
This formula below has worked well for me over the past 18 years.

Washing Sheepskin Saddle Blankets
1. Hand Wash with a pure wool washing power/liquid in the laundry sink with warm water.
2. Hard Spin out in the washing machine.
3. Rinse with Warm Water about 10L to 1 Cup fabric conditioner. Make sure the washing power has been removed by rinsing the saddle blanket in the above mix.
4. Hard Spin out in the washing machine
5. Dry in a clothes dryer (tumble) on COLD intill dry.

Things that can ruin your sheepskin saddle blankets
1. Putting out in the hot sun to dry.
2. Hot cloth dryers.
3. Hard washing in a machine.
4. Using hot water in your washing machine.

Handy Hints
1. Use a thin saddle blanket that’s easily washed in a machine, put your sheepskin saddle blanket on top..
2. If your sheepskin gets get wet or dirty from riding, just leave over the top of the saddle in till dry then brush out.
3. If your horse has been malting use the vacuum cleaner to remove any excess fur.

Please note I can take no responsibility whatsoever.
